Monkey Lyly had always been mischievous, but this time, she took her curiosity to a whole new level. One sunny morning on the farm, she noticed the hens carefully guarding their nests. Lyly, fascinated by the oval treasures beneath them, sneaked closer and watched the hens sit patiently, warming the eggs. Her little eyes sparkled with an idea—if the hens could hatch eggs, why couldn’t she?
When no one was looking, Lyly tiptoed to the coop, quickly grabbed three eggs, and rushed off to her secret corner behind the banana trees. She carefully placed them in a pile of leaves and sat on them just like she saw the hens do. With her arms wrapped around her knees and a very serious expression, Lyly believed she was about to become a mother.
Hours passed. Lyly didn’t move. She refused bananas, ignored calls from her caregiver, and only tightened her posture, determined to “hatch” her babies. But soon, she began to fidget—her legs were tired, her stomach growled, and she wasn’t sure how much longer she had to wait. She glanced at the eggs, then at the sky, as if hoping for a fast-forward button.
By evening, Mama came searching and found Lyly sitting stiffly, eyes wide with concentration. “Lyly, what are you doing there?” she asked. Startled, Lyly panicked and tried to stand up—crack! One egg gently rolled down, unbroken but wobbly, while another slipped and broke slightly, revealing… a yolk. Lyly stared, horrified. That wasn’t a baby chick—just a gooey mess! She shrieked and leaped away, wiping her hands on leaves, making faces of pure disgust.
Instead of scolding her, everyone burst into laughter. Even Lyly, realizing her “motherhood mission” had failed, started giggling with embarrassment. For the next few days, she peeked at the hens with newfound respect, no longer tempted to steal their eggs.
Though her hatching attempt didn’t bring chicks, it brought endless laughter. Monkey Lyly learned one thing that day: some jobs are better left to chickens!
